Badass Femmes: Motivational Thoughts For Future You

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” Anais Nin

Hi future you! You look like a girl in need of advice. Is your life a mess? Sweet! You’re organised in making your journey through the big blue sky of existence just like every other person with a heart and a head. Normal is you.

Here are some things that some pretty top notch people have said. I’m talking people who seem or have seemed as though they have their heads triple screwed on.

Don’t look over here. Listen to Jane:

“Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love.”  Jane Austen

When lovers are just treating you mean without the keen, girl has got to have her gfs/bfs. Don’t you dare be one of those people that smoke bombs as soon as a fancy sex person bats their eyelashes. You are independent and a part of that is maintaining positive relationships with your gal/boy pals!

“If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing.” Margaret Thatcher

Spend time mulling over what satisfies your soul. Waste no time in doing so and doing it often. Do not use those precious minutes worrying about whether or not someone is going to support you in those decisions. Do IT now. And follow your dreams.

*unless you’re a cannibal, unfortunately, that is not socially acceptable and you should worry about how your friends think of you once you have eaten one of them

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”  J.K Rowling

Be reckless. Especially if you’re in your 20s.. or 30s.. or any age. Be the kind of reckless that is getting up and doing the things you are MOST scared to fail at. Over and over and over. And fail, and cry about it, and do it again. Yes, these experiences make you tougher but that’s not the point!!! Its boring to sit back and wish you had but didn’t. We have a saying in Australia- shoulda, woulda, coulda. Don’t waste my time or yours, my lady.

“If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun.”  Katharine Hepburn

Let your hair loose! Getting kicked out of a few pubs, a few arrests… whatever.

*arrests can go on your permanent record…but if you already have face tattoos just go ahead.

“Always remember, you may not be able to reach what’s in front of you, until you let go of what’s behind you.” Unknown

You are not what you were, nor will you ever be again. Your ‘reputation’ is invalid. It makes more of a difference what you do today than any other day of your life. Eyes on the prize honey, you’re a star. Act like it.

“The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself.” Anna Quindlen

Here is an extremely empowering fact once you really, really consider it; you are not perfect. You are you, and god that is just everything. The way you look, the thoughts and memories that come into your mind and eyes when you hear music or read a poem; they are you. You are not a cookie or a cutter, you are a you. It’s wonderful and it’s terrible. Big and small. Move away from the idea that perfection is interesting and nice. It’s boring as fuck all, darling. Find people that embrace all of your intricacies as they would the most intriguing and exciting piece of artwork in the world. But most importantly, find a way in which to find your own treasure. Guard and nurture for life.

“So many things become beautiful when you really look.” Lauren Oliver

Life is made up of millions of ordinary moments. Tiny spaces of time that are unimportant upon impact, yet enormous upon reflection. Chuck twenty years on your morning coffee with book session in your 30s, and you have yourself a love story containing you, yourself and Patti Smith. Take in these moments like big gulps of air. Be present. Focus.
